November 2014 was a good year for Harvey Community Radio (HCR). We had a number of new presenters complete accredited training and go on to produce and present new programs. As a result of HCR’s dedication to best training practices, we were awarded the 2014 Community Broadcasting Association of Australia’s (CBAA) trophy for Excellence in Training. This award is Australia wide and open to over 300 community radio stations.
Accredited training is available through Community Broadcasting grant opportunities and the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO) who provide excellent training in many areas of broadcast. Credit also goes to our volunteers who assist with training coordination and in-house training requirements.
Our second CBAA award went to Jesse Dagostino for his children’s program, ‘Jump Up With Jesse’. Jesse aims to entertain the community’s pre-schoolers every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning from 9 am to 10 am with specially selected interactive music to get kids moving and grooving.Jesse’s unique presentation style and ability to connect with his young audience has won him not only this fantastic award, but the admiration of his very large contingent of listeners. Jesse was a participant in the Certificate II training program and one of our many new presenters who benefited from training initiatives.
HCR was only one of two community stations to be nominated for four finalist positions at these awards and one of only a few who received more than one award. Success is credited to all our volunteers who work hard to make sure our communities receive best quality broadcast content.
HCR would like to thank all our supporters and listeners. Without all the valuable and appreciated support, community radio would not be as effective as it should be.
